MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Another unexpected move out of Morgantown.
West Virginia senior Jasper Floyd has entered the transfer portal after starting all 35 games for the Mountaineers this past season. And this one stands out, because Floyd wasn’t just a role player. He was a steady presence in the lineup all year.
Now he’s back in the portal, and if he plans to play again, he’ll need a waiver for another year of eligibility at another school.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 7.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, doing a little bit of everything. He wasn’t always the guy filling up the scoring column, but he impacted the game in a lot of ways. Defensively active, good feel as a passer, and someone the staff trusted enough to have him out there from day one to the end of the season.
That kind of consistency is not easy to replace.
Floyd came to WVU after stops at Fairfield and North Texas, bringing experience and maturity to a roster that needed it. You could see that show up, especially in tougher stretches of the season when things got a little shaky.
From WVU’s perspective, this is just another sign of how much turnover is happening right now. The roster is being reshaped, and not everyone who played big minutes this year is going to be part of what’s next.
The bottom line?
This one’s a bit surprising, but it’s part of where things are.
And now it’s about what comes next.
