Despite Ohio Valley Conference Likely Postponing Until Spring, WVU Can Still Play EKU

According to multiple reports, the Ohio Valley Conference is expected to be the 13th and final FCS conference to postpone their season into the spring on Friday evening. This would mean that WVU’s season opening opponent, Eastern Kentucky, will not play conference games this fall. However, there is still an opportunity that the Colonels will play in Morgantown on September 12th.

The conference is expected to allow its opponents to compete in non-conference games this fall. This is a model that a select few FCS conferences are using around the nation. Missouri State’s conference, the Missouri Valley Conference, postponed its season to the spring. Despite this, the Bears are still scheduled to play the Oklahoma Sooners on September 12th in order to collect a solid payday.

While it seems uncertain right now, WVU will likely not be scrambling for a non-conference opponent only weeks before the season.

This will be WVU’s first meeting with Eastern Kentucky in school history.
