Former WVU Target is Nowhere to Be Found on Miami’s Depth Chart

Remember when former Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell was rumored to be transferring to West Virginia? Remember when fans were convinced that if we got him, he would be the savior of Mountaineer Football? Yeah, well it is looking more and more like WVU dodged a bullet on this one.

Martell would ultimately choose the Miami Hurricanes over West Virginia in early 2019, and was expected to take over the starting signal-caller role. Now, just over one year later, Martell is nowhere to be found on Miami’s depth chart.

After seeing limited action at quarterback and wide receiver last season, Martell is completely absent from the three-deep — yes, the THREE-DEEP. He’s not listed at any position on the offensive or defensive side of the ball.

There has been no word on whether or not the former 5-star recruit has left the program, or even if he has opted out this season. Needless to say, WVU appears to have landed the better option in the 2019 quarterback sweepstakes. Even though he isn’t the starter anymore, Austin Kendall did more for the program than Martell ever could have.

Just because a player has flash doesn’t mean that they will be successful. Just take Tate Martell as an example. The next time WVU is rumored to land a big time prospect, do some digging on them before coming to the conclusion they would be the answer for the program.
