Morgantown, WV – Former WVU coach Josh Eilert has yet another opportunity as a head coach. After a change of leadership was announced for the University of Utah’s Men’s Basketball team, Eilert, who served as WVU’s head coach last season, was named the interim head coach for the Utes.

Here is what Utah Athletic Director Mark Harlan had to say about the transition:

”After evaluating our program under Craig’s leadership, I believe a change is needed to get us to where we want to go. The time is now to begin that process, and we will surround Coach Eilert, the staff and our student-athletes with support as they continue with their season.”

Eilert was dealt a bad hand with the Mountaineers for the 2023-24 season. Former head coach Bob Huggins resigned following a DUI arrest in June of 2023. Eilert was promoted as the interim head coach, and withstood a slew of transfers out of the program. The Mountaineers ultimately ended the campaign with a 9-23 record.

Utah is currently 15-12 on the season.
