Morgantown, WV – The West Virginia University Football program is on the search for its 36th head coach. Following six seasons with the program, Neal Brown was relieved of his coaching duties late on Sunday afternoon.

Many have speculated who the Mountaineers may bring in to replace Brown, with fan favorite names, Rich Rodriguez and Jimbo Fisher, being thrown into the mix.

Well, it now seems that we have gotten a major update regarding those two in this coaching search.

Hoppy Kercheval, a co-host of 3 Guys Before the Game, shared his thoughts on the coaching search and where Rodriguez and Fisher stand at this point in time. He states that both Fisher and Rodriguez are “likely not getting the job.”

While this is certainly disappointing news for Mountaineer fans that were hoping to see either of those West Virginia natives on the sidelines, it is not official news regarding their candidacy.

Much of Kercheval’s stance on Rodriguez not being considered a serious candidate for the job is due to the controversy that he could potentially bring with him. When Rodriguez left WVU in 2007, there was a lot made about how he exited. According to Kercheval, this may simply be too much for the fanbase to overcome. Should this hire be made, this could potentially bring a major split among the fanbase in terms of who supports the move and who does not.

It is still expected that both will be a pivotal piece of the interviewing process, and that both will be looked into by WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker.

It is rumored that the interviewing process has begun for the Mountaineers. There are no current updates as to who is being interviewed at this time.

Stay tuned to The Voice of Motown for updates on the coaching search.
