Neal Brown Makes Early Season “Coach of the Year” List

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Winning cures all and Neal Brown has gone from the hottest hot seat in college football to now being considered one of the top head coaches of the early 2023 season.

Brown, who has led the Mountaineers to a 4-1 overall record and a 2-0 record in the Big 12 Conference to start the season, is now appearing on lists for “Coach of the Year in College Football.” One such recognition came from College Football Blue Bloods, a popular social media account, who put Brown near the top of their list for top coaches in college football through Week 7.

Brown, who is now 26-26 overall in his 5th season at West Virginia, came in at #4 on their top head coaches of the 2023 season. The rest of the list included:

  1. Deion Sanders (Colorado)
  2. Brent Venables (Oklahoma)
  3. Jeff Brohm (Lousiville)
  4. Neal Brown (West Virginia)
  5. Mike Elko (Duke)
  6. Jake Dickert (Washington State)
  7. Lance Leipold (Kansas)
  8. Dan Lanning (Oregon)
  9. Mike Norvell (Florida State)
  10. Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri)

Brown, 43, is one of the youngest coaches on the list and certainly one of the most surprising coaches to make the early top ten. West Virginia is back in action this Thursday, October 12, on the road at Houston to play the Houston Cougars (2-3, 0-2) in a huge Big 12 Conference matchup.
