Omar Silverio’s Waiver Denied

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Moments ago, West Virginia interim head coach Josh Eilert announced that Omar Silverio’s appeal for a waiver request to play for the Mountaineers has been denied by the NCAA.

Silverio, a 6’3 senior guard from the Dominican Republic, averaged 10.9 points two seasons ago at Hofstra and was expected to come off the bench for the Mountaineers this season.

Eilert had the following to say about the decision: “I know Omar is disappointed that he won’t be able to compete this season as a Mountaineer and that his collegiate career is over,” Eilert said. “He is a wonderful person, and I know he will be successful in whatever career path he chooses. All of us enjoyed our time with him, and we wish him well.”
