Houston, TX – Last month, the University of Houston and Athletic Director Chris Pezman parted ways after a seven-year stint. Several names have been tied to the now vacant athletic director position – including one that is all too familiar with WVU fans.

According to Joseph Duarte of Houston Chronicle, former WVU Athletic Director Oliver Luck is a “name to watch” in Houston’s search for an athletic director. Luck, who played his collegiate career as a quarterback for WVU from 1978 to 1981, spent four years as the school’s athletic director from 2010 to 2014. He’s widely known for leading the Mountaineers into their new home in the Big 12 Conference.

Since his time in Morgantown, Luck has spent time in crucial roles for the XFL and NCAA. From 2014 to 2018, he was the executive vice president of regulatory affairs for the NCAA. He then served as the first commissioner of the XFL from 2018 to 2020. Luck sued the XFL for “wrongful termination” after he was fired prior to the league’s bankruptcy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lawsuit was settled in 2022, according to reports.
