NEW ORLEANS, LA — In their first season in Conference USA and first in the FBS, Jacksonville State beat the Ragin Cajuns of Lousiana, 34-31. With the win, Jacksonville moved to 9-4 on the season during a year that was expected to be a down year for the program.
Rodriguez, now 60, is an impressive 18-6 overall and 11-2 in two seasons at Jacksonville State, and is now 181-125-2 during his long and illustrious career. With his success at Jax State, many expect Rodriguez to garner interest from Power 5 programs looking for a head coach during the offseason.
Rodriguez was recently asked about being pursued by other programs and he had the following to say: “If someone’s mentioning you for a job in a good way, that’s a good thing, right? It must mean your program is doing OK,” he said. “You don’t want it to be the other way. I’ve been the other way before.”
What a capper to an incredible 9-win season for @JaxStateFB in its first season as a member of @ConferenceUSA and first in the FBS! Hell of a job by HC Rich Rodriguez and his staff! 1-0 start to the @BowlSeason for CUSA! https://t.co/BmgOuM1qYm
