Morgantown, WV – One name that has been prominent throughout WVU’s search for their next head coach is none other than Rich Rodriguez. According to WV News, Rodriguez is set to interview for the WVU opening this weekend. Or at least that is what was believed. After last night, that may not be the case. During his postgame press conference after his Jacksonville Gamecocks won the Conference USA Championship, Rodriguez claimed that he “has no interviews” and “nothing scheduled.”
“I have nothing scheduled,” Rodriguez said. “Other than I’m going to have a great day with Miss Rita and the kids and Roxie and Rambo tomorrow, absolutely great day on Sunday, watching a little film, and then on Monday, getting starting to get ready for this great bowl game that we’re going to be in right here a couple weeks.”
Rodriguez went on to say, “The reports, just rumors, right? Total rumors,” Rodriguez. “My focus has been on these guys at Jax State, and they’ll continue to be. If any coach gets rumored for a job, it’s probably because his players and his coaches are doing pretty good. So, if I’m rumored for any job, then it’s because these guys and their teammates are doing a good job.”

As WVU fans know all too well, this could simply be coaches talk coming from Rodriguez. Back in 2007, Rodriguez also denied to answer any reports that he was leaving for the vacancy at the University of Michigan.
Rodriguez has compiled a record of 27-10 during his three seasons with the Gamecocks. He has helped with a transition to the FBS level for the program, winning 9-games in each of their first two years in Conference USA.
News regarding WVU’s vacancy for their head football coach is expected within the next few days. Many candidates have been mentioned, but Rodriguez appears to be the one that has most fans excited. Given his success with WVU during his first stint at head coach, recapturing that magic would only excite fans of the program moving forward.
