MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — According to multiple sources, it appears that West Virginia will get back one of their top defensive players next season! Aubrey Burks, a junior safety from Oakridge, Florida, has been the subject of several rumors since the Mountaineers’ final regular season game, indicating he could be leaving the West Virginia football program and entering the transfer portal.

However, it now appears that Burks will return to play for the Mountaineers in 2024. Burks posted the following message on Instagram that seems to confirm that he will remain at West Virginia. It shows a picture of a West Viginia fan wearing a shirt that says, “B****, I’m a Mountaineer, F*** around and find out.”

In addition, noted West Virginia insider, Huddy Tuddy Szn, posted a message on X, saying, “Aubrey Burks isn’t going anywhere!”

If true, this is huge news for the West Virginia defense! There were concerns that Burks could potentially leave after safeties coach Dontae Wright was announced to be leaving the program to become the new defensive coordinator at Troy.

This season as the team’s starting safety, Burks had 44 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 interception for the Mountaineers.
