Update on the Quarterback Situation at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia’s starting quarterback Garrett Greene suffered an injury in the 1st quarter of the Backyard Brawl against Pitt this past weekend and was seen on the sidelines with a boot on his foot. In his place, redshirt freshman Nicco Marchiol led the Mountaineers to a 17-6 victory over the Panthers.

Today, according to a source, Marchiol took the first team snaps at quarterback for the team and is expected to start against Texas Tech on Saturday. Neal Brown said recently that if players aren’t ready to practice by Wednesday, that they will likely not play in the game. Greene was very limited at practice today and did not participate in actual plays with the team.

With that said, it appears that Nicco Marchiol will be the starter this weekend. Last week, Marchiol was 6/9 for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. For the season, he’s 13/23 for 123 yards and a touchdown.
