MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Now that Rich Rodriguez is returning as the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers, he will have to put together his staff of assistants in the coming days. Although he will likely bring many of his current staff members at Jacksonville State, it’s possible that he could look to bring back a few former Mountaineers as assistants.
One name that has popped up since Rodriguez was hired is none other than Jahmile Addae. Addae, 40, was a two-time All-Big East performer for the Mountaineers, is tied for the WVU record for most pass breakups in a game (5, Rutgers, 2002), finished his WVU career with 253 tackles, including 152 solo stops and 25 pass breakups, ranking No. 5 in program history.
Addae was the defensive secondary coach at West Virginia in 2019 and was the co-defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach for the Mountaineers in 2020. He left to become the co-defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach at Georgia in 2021, then moved to become the secondary coach at Miami and is now the cornerbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills in the NFL.
Addae is not only an experienced, outstanding defensive coach who has all of the credentials to be highly successful as the defensive coordinator at West Virginia, he was also one of the best recruiters in college football during his tenures in Morgantown, as well as at Georgia and Miami. Addae has experience working under Rodriguez at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona, and he is the logical choice to return home as the defensive coordinator of the Mountaineers.

When Rodriguez was announced as the new head coach of the program, Addae retweeted it with a heart emoji, seemingly expressing his interest in taking the position. Addae is reportedly very happy as the cornerbacks coach with the Bills in the NFL right now, but it will be hard to turn down coming home if or when Rich Rodriguez comes calling.
