Akok Akok Officially Signs with West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — As was announced previously, Georgetown transfer Akok Akok has signed to finish his career with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Akok, a 6’10 forward from Manchester, New Hampshire, averaged 6.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for the Georgetown Hoyas last season. Akok previously played for UCONN, where he averaged 5.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a freshman.

In addition to being a tremendous rebounder and defender, Akok is a gifted athlete who is capable of making three pointers. Although it is early, Akok will almost certainly start next to Jesse Edwards in the Mountaineers’ front court.

Interim head coach Josh Eilert had the following to say about Akok: “Akok runs the floor extremely well and adds athleticism to our roster,” Eilert said. “He gives us the ability to stretch the floor with his shot-making skill. Akok will give us a bigger defensive presence with his shot blocking, his ability to alter shots around the rim and the way he can sit down and guard. He really gives us many different attributes that we didn’t have. Akok has played a great deal of Big East basketball and brings more experience to our roster.”
