Morgantown, West Virginia – Former West Virginia Mountaineers head coach turned Houston Cougars coach is already the highest paid coach in Houston athletics history, but he’s about to get even more money soon.
Holgorsen, who is 7-14 at Houston since leaving West Virginia, has a provision in his contract that states if Houston moves from the AAC to a Power 5 Conference, he would be “due a $1 million bonus payment to be paid in two years as long as he isn’t fired for cause, and as long as he doesn’t terminate the contract on his end without cause.”
Houston's move into Big 12 triggers provision in football coach Dana Holgorsen's contract that prompts renegotiation of his deal. He also will be due a $1 million bonus payment that will become payable in 2 yrs, as long as he isn't fired for cause or doesn't terminate w/o cause

Not getting fired will be the tricky part for Holgorsen. Holgorsen’s 7-14 record in the American Athletic Conference is certainly not acceptable for Houston and will only get worse in the far more challenging Big 12.
