ESPN Predicts (Another) Awful Season for the Mountaineers

West Virginia Mountaineers head coach Neal Brown looks on before the game against Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers, coming off of a 5-7 overall record and a 3-6 record in the Big 12 Conference, are predicted to have an even worse season this year.

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season” and has been astoundingly accurate over the years.

Here’s how ESPN’s FPI predicts how the Mountaineers’ season will play out:

9/2 at Penn State – 9% chance to win.

9/9 Duquesne – 98.5% chance to win.

9/16 Pitt – 39.1% chance to win.

9/23 Texas Tech – 34.7% chance to win.

9/30 @TCU – 14.2% chance to win.

11/11 @Oklahoma – 9.1% chance to win.

11/18 Cincinnati – 49.7% chance to win.
