MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — What’s been rumored for a while became official tonight when West Virginia defensive lineman Jalen Thornton announced on social media that his career with the Mountaineers is over.

Thornton, a 6’2 redshirt senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, played 45 games during his career at West Virginia, compiling 25 tackles and 3 sacks. In his farewell message posted on Instagram, Thornton said the following: “Look how he shocked the world. Look how he put the odds to rest. Look how he overcame. Look how he showed you the best still. Thank you to everyone who was a part of the journey. 97 out.”

Although it wasn’t officially announced, it’s rumored that Thornton was simply ready to move on with his life after football after graduating from WVU. Best of luck and Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer!
