James Long, the former West Virginia University player and assistant coach, has won the River States Conference Coach of the Year in his first season as the Head Coach of the WVU Tech basketball team.  Long led the Golden Bears to a 23-8 overall record and a 16-1 conference record.  Tech also won the River States Conference regular season championship.

Long, originally from Charleston, West Virginia, played for the Mountaineers from 2014-2017 and averaged 1.4 points per game during his career.  He started his final game with the Mountaineers on Senior night and was also a member of the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball First Team.  After graduating from WVU, he worked on Bob Huggins’ staff as a Video Coordinator and Assistant Coach.
