Neal Brown on Players’ Reaction to Preseason Poll: “They’re Pissed Off”

WVU Head Coach Neal Brown spoke about the reaction of the players on being picked to finish last in the Big 12.

Morgantown, WV – It’s no secret at this point – WVU has been picked to finish last in the Big 12 Preseason Poll. During media days today, WVU Head Coach Neal Brown was asked multiple times about the ranking, and his answer was similar every time.

Neither him nor the team are happy, and they are looking forward to proving everyone wrong.

Ryan Decker of Gold and Blue Nation asked Coach Brown about the players’ reaction to the news of being selected as the worst in the Big 12.

Here is what Brown had to say:

“Well, they’re pissed off. You don’t wanna be picked there, right? So there’s some emotion there. That’s not how they view themselves. That’s not how we view them in the building. Like I said, we talked about it, now it’s about two things – we can prove them right or we can prove them wrong. We’re going to go about our business and prove them wrong.”

Much like Mountaineer fans weren’t happy, it sounds like the team wasn’t either.

Nobody knows what West Virginia has in the building other than themselves. For Brown to be so adamant about their abilities going into the 2023 season, WVU may end up being the best kept secret in the country.

It all remains to be seen, however. WVU opens up the 2023 season on September 2nd at 7:30. The game is set to broadcast on NBC.
