Former WVU Quarterback Will Grier is set to be released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Arlington, TX – Former WVU Quarterback Will Grier has put together a solid preseason for the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, it was simply not enough to earn a roster spot as the team traded for 49ers Quarterback Trey Lance yesterday.
According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, Grier will be released by the Cowboys, but will have the chance to play for them in their final preseason game as a showcase for the rest of the NFL.
Club officials spoke to QB Will Grier before the deal for Trey Lance was made public, two people with knowledge of how the trade went down said.
He’s been told he won’t be on this team going forward but is slated to play from start to finish against the Raiders in his farewell.

Grier hasn’t made a regular season NFL appearance since 2019 with the Carolina Panthers. After being released from the Panthers in 2020, the North Carolina native landed in Dallas and spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Cowboys.
