WVU drops in latest March Madness forecast

West Virginia falls a line in the latest NCAA Tournament projections after a big loss at Kansas State and a big win at home over Texas.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Mountaineers (15-3, 4-2 Big 12) as the No. 3 seed in the West Region in his latest Bracketology projection. That’s down a slot from his previous forecast. Lunardi also projects longer travel for WVU in Tuesday’s prognostication. He has the Mountaineers playing in the Greensboro, N.C. pod. In previous projections he had WVU playing in the Cleveland pod in the first two rounds. Lunardi has WVU opening against No. 14 seed Stonybrook in the first round. Lunardi has Rutgers (No. 6 seed) and Liberty (11) opposite WVU in the Greensboro pod https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology.

CBS Sports Jerry Palm has an even further fall for WVU. Palm dropped the Mountaineers from a second seed to a No. 4 seed in the West Region in his latest projection. Palm has the Mountaineers opening against Stephen F. Austin (No.13 seed) in the first round in the Tampa, Fla. pod. This match up would bring back terrible memories for Mountaineers fans. The Lumberjacks, as a 14 seed, shocked WVU in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Palm has Auburn (5) and Liberty (12) in the Tampa pod opposite WVU https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/bracketology/.

SB Nation also as the Mountaineers as a No. 3 seed and playing in the Greensboro pod. SB Nation has WVU opening against Wright State (14). Penn State (6) and East Tennessee State (11) are in the Greensboro pod opposite WVU https://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2020/1/21/21074711/college-basketball-bracketology-2020-baylor-kansas-san-diego-state-gonzaga-big-ten-acc-pac-12-big-12.
