The Mountaineers are now projected to go to a bowl game following a 17-6 victory over Pitt.

Morgantown, WV – While virtually no one had WVU playing in the postseason prior to the 2023 season, things have changed following their latest victory. Neal Brown and the Mountaineers knocked off the Pitt Panthers in one of the marquee matchups of the week last night, 17-6.

Now, with only four wins needed to reach bowl eligibility, and a schedule that features a lot of Big 12 teams going through slumps, one journalist now has West Virginia going bowling this December.

As a part of ESPN’s Week 3 Bowl Projections, Journalist Mark Schlabach has West Virginia playing Air Force in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl on December 19th in Frisco, Texas.

The Mountaineers and Falcons have never met on the gridiron.

This would make the 2nd time under Neal Brown that West Virginia has played an Armed Forces school in a bowl game. They previously defeated Army in the 2020 Autozone Liberty Bowl, 24-21.

WVU will have the chance to further pave their path to bowl eligibility when Texas Tech visits this Saturday. The game is set for a 3:30 kickoff on ESPN+.
