Pat Suemnick Expected to Start Against Oklahoma

NORMAN, Oklahoma — The West Virginia Mountaineers are back in action, seeking their second consecutive win against a Top 25 team, this time against the #15 ranked Oklahoma Sooners (13-3) on the road in Norman, Oklahoma.

Fortunately, the Mountaineers will have one of their hottest players over the last several games in the starting lineup tonight. Pat Suemnick, a 6’8 senior from Green Bay, Wisconsin, has suffered from an undisclosed illness over the last couple days and was not expected to play against the Sooners.

During interim head coach Josh Eilert’s press conference earlier in the week, he said, “I get a text this morning that Suemnick has come up with an illness. He’s going to be checked out here by the doctors and trainers to see what he’s got going on. We’ll try to isolate him as much as we can, as we travel to Pittsburgh.”

However, according to Tony Caridi moments ago, Suemnick is cleared to play and will be in the starting lineup for the Mountaineers tonight.

Suemnick, who is averaging 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, has stepped up over the last couple of games in the absence of starting center Jesse Edwards. Last game against the Texas Longhorns, Suemnick put up a career high 16 points and 6 rebounds in 27 minutes of play.
