West Virginia Texas GAMEDAY PREDICTION

Austin, Texas – The West Virginia Mountaineers (2-2) will meet the 2-2 Texas Longhorns today at 7:30PM on Fox Sports 1 in a very important Big 12 Conference game for both teams.

The Mountaineers are coming off a 33-10 win at Virginia Tech while Texas is coming off a tough overtime loss on the road at Texas Tech. The betting line has fluctuated quite a bit during the week, starting off at -11.5 for Texas and is now down to -7.5 on game day after the news of their starting quarterback, Quinn Ewers, being unavailable for the game.  Here’s how our experts think the game will play out today:

Joshua Kerns, Writer, The Voice of Motown: This game will determine how good or bad West Virginia truly is this season. WVU has a real chance to still win the Big 12 Conference with how wide open it is. If they beat Texas, it will not only show how wide open the conference is but also indicate that the Mountaineers are not as bad as we thought in the first couple of weeks of the season.

With or without Quinn Ewers, this was going to be a close game, but without him, WVU wins it.

Clark Johnson, Senior Writer, The Voice of Motown: This is make or break it time for West Virginia. A win in Austin would be huge for the Mountaineers and put them back on track for a successful season in 2022. A loss, well, same old same old. With Quinn Ewers out, I think Neal Brown’s crew sneaks out with a victory in Austin. Casey Legg wins it with a 47-yard field goal off the right goal post.

Brad Smith, Publisher, The Voice of Motown: Openly, I predicted Texas to beat West Virginia 44-28 all week because I assumed that Quinn Ewers would be back for this game. He proved that he’s a difference-maker after carving up Alabama’s defense in Week 2 before getting injured and I was concerned about West Virginia’s shaky secondary against Ewers and the ultra-talented wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

However, with Ewers now out, Hudson Card steps in. Card is still hobbled with a leg injury and hasn’t been particularly impressive even when he’s healthy.

With that said, even though I think West Virginia is the more talented, complete team right now, winning on the road at night in a very important conference game is really hard and this game can go either way. I typically go with my head but today I’ll go with my heart.
