Who is Sean Boyle?

Freshman Quarterback Sean Boyle could be forced into action today against Texas Tech.

Morgantown, WV – With Garrett Greene likely out for today’s matchup against Texas Tech, the Mountaineer quarterback room automatically becomes thin in what is one of the most important matchups of the early season.

While Nicco Marchiol has playing experience and a high ceiling, you never quite know what you are going to get out of a first time starter. However, he will not be our main focus this morning as Marchiol needs no introduction to Mountaineer fans.

Instead, we are going to take a look at who would be WVU’s backup quarterback today in Greene’s absence – Freshman Sean Boyle.

Boyle is a North Carolina native. As the lone quarterback, and coming in behind the experience and talent of Greene and Marchiol, Boyle was not expected to see any playing time in 2023. However, as life often works out, the unexpected has happened.

He is now next-in-line to see the field.

Coming out of high school, Boyle was a 247Sports three-star prospect. Though he was not highly recruited, he was expected to be a project with a plethora of upside. As a prospect that was not offered by many major programs – Rutgers being the only other Power Five to offer him – the pressure would not be there to perform right away.

However, if he is thrust into action today, that narrative could change in a hurry.
