Morgantown, WV – For the first time in school history, the West Virginia Mountaineers have won a game at Allen Fieldhouse.

In an exciting finish, WVU took down the 7th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks by a final score of 62-61 on New Year’s Eve.

The Mountaineers were led by an incredible effort by Javon Small, that saw him clinch the game with a game-winning free throw. The Oklahoma State transfer finished with a double-double, notching 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Eduardo Andre led the Mountaineers with scoring with 15 points while adding 6 rebounds.

After leading the game by 16 at one point in the second half, the Mountaineers held off a fierce comeback attempt by the Jayhawks to notch their third ranked victory of the season. This also marks the first time since 1991 that Kansas has lost their Big 12 opener.
