SOURCE: West Virginia Loses Its First Player to the Transfer Portal

Following Bob Huggins’ resignation as the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers, it was expected that several players would leave the program. Today, the first player is reportedly entering the transfer portal.

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia starting forward Tre Mitchell is reportedly leaving the Mountaineers basketball program and will enter the transfer portal, according to Justin Jackson of The Dominion Post.

“Lots of buzz lately about forward Tre Mitchell. Just told by a source that he’s entered the portal today. School has 2 business days to officially put his name in the portal.”

Mitchell, a 6’9 senior from Pittsburgh, PA, averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a starter for the Mountaineers last season. It’s been rumored that Mitchell has been offered “more than twice as much NIL money” from other schools after Bob Huggins’ resignation. It’s expected that other players on the roster are also considering transferring.
